Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari received the credentials of Ugo Ciarlatani, Ambassador-designate of Italy, and Han Sungho, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Korea, at a ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr today. The President highlighted the significance of these diplomatic appointments in enhancing Pakistan’s international relations, focusing on trade, investment, and collaborative efforts in various sectors.

According to Press Information Department, President Zardari, in his conversation with Ambassador Ciarlatani, expressed optimism that the ambassador’s tenure would further solidify relations between Pakistan and Italy. He acknowledged the growth in bilateral trade, which has exceeded the $1 billion mark, and expressed appreciation for Italy’s support of Pakistan’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-26 term. The President also noted the newly signed agreement on the abolition of visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders and emphasized the role of the Pakistani community in Italy in fostering connections between the two nations.

In his discussion with Ambassador Han Sungho, President Zardari underscored the value Pakistan places on its multifaceted relationship with the Republic of Korea. He expressed a keen interest in expanding trade and investment relations, mentioning the ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. The President also highlighted areas of potential cooperation, including climate change, development, defense, shipbuilding, and technology.

Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs were present at the meeting, further emphasizing the importance of these diplomatic engagements.
