Gilgit: The Maqpondass Special Economic Zone is set to be established in the Gilgit-Baltistan region with the backing of the Special Investment Facilitation Council. The zone, which will cover 250 acres, aims to foster significant investment and create job opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, minerals, handicrafts, and wood products.
According to Radio Pakistan, the economic zone is being developed through a public-private partnership. The strategic location of Gilgit-Baltistan offers rich natural resources and proximity to Chinese markets, which are expected to enhance investment and commercial activities in the region. The initiative is seen as a key driver for economic growth, leveraging the area’s natural potential and geographical advantages.
