Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has called on Pakistan’s Ambassador-Designate to Libya, Maj. Gen. (R) Mumtaz Hussain, to foster stronger political and economic relations between Pakistan and Libya. The President emphasized the importance of high-level political engagement and the expansion of economic, trade, and investment opportunities, as discussed during a meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

According to Press Information Department, President Zardari underscored the significance of Pakistan’s longstanding relationship with Libya, which is built on shared faith, mutual respect, and common values. He highlighted the potential for cooperation in various sectors including defense, energy, information technology, healthcare, education, agriculture, and human resource development.

The meeting also focused on promoting interaction between the business communities of both countries and exploring investment opportunities in Pakistan through the Special Investment Facilitation Council. President Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s support for Libya’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and for efforts toward peace, stability, and national reconciliation.

Emphasizing the welfare of the Pakistani community in Libya, the President expressed hope for ongoing cooperation with Libya in international forums such as the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on issues of mutual interest, including Palestine and Jammu & Kashmir.

Maj. Gen. (R) Mumtaz Hussain, on his part, stated that his priorities as Ambassador would include addressing the concerns of the Pakistani community in Libya and enhancing bilateral trade between the two nations.
