Prime Minister Sharif Advocates for National Diabetes Prevention Strategy


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has advocated for a comprehensive strategy to prevent diabetes, urging the development of a national plan to address the growing health issue. In a meeting with a delegation of national and international endocrinology and diabetes specialists, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of integrating disease prevention with treatment efforts to effectively combat diabetes across the country.



According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the importance of promoting a healthy lifestyle, particularly among the youth, including college and university students. He directed the implementation of measures to increase public awareness about the benefits of a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and healthy habits. The Prime Minister called for the dissemination of information through television, radio, digital platforms, and other media outlets.



Sharif stressed the need for a clear policy and actionable plan that aligns with national priorities to prevent diabetes. He urged relevant institutions to develop a coordinated strategy focusing on research, public awareness, and preventive measures. The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of regional and international cooperation to address the rising challenge of diabetes effectively.



The Prime Minister further instructed that prevention measures should be enhanced by learning from international experiences and best practices. During the meeting, delegation members commended recent policy measures for diabetes prevention and control and expressed their commitment to supporting public awareness campaigns in Pakistan.
