Islamabad: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) have agreed to strengthen their political and institutional partnership by developing Five Political Corridors to complement the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0. This initiative aims to drive the next phase of socio-economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.
According to Press Information Department, the agreement was reached during a high-level party-to-party engagement led by PML-N Secretary General and Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, and Mr. Liu Daxiu, Head of Delegation and First Class Inspector of the Party Building Research Institute of the CPC. The discussions focused on reinforcing PML-N-CPC relations through governance and development learning, leadership and youth exchanges, and institutional cooperation to support CPEC 2.0.
Professor Iqbal emphasized the historical and strategic importance of the Pakistan-China relationship, highlighting China’s support during critical moments and the significant role of CPEC’s first phase in addressing Pakistan’s energy challenges. He reiterated the intention to build on this foundation through innovation, green development, and regional connectivity as part of CPEC 2.0.
The parties agreed to implement the Five Political Corridors proposed during the China-Pakistan Political Parties Forum in Beijing in May 2026. These corridors will be part of an annual program for PML-N-CPC cooperation, covering political dialogue, strategic coordination, governance learning, and cultural connectivity, among others.
Mr. Liu Daxiu expressed China’s commitment to advancing CPEC 2.0 and strengthening Belt and Road cooperation with Pakistan, underlining the alignment between China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and Pakistan’s URAAN Pakistan 5Es framework. Both sides endorsed the Five Political Corridors as a means to deepen CPC-PML-N exchanges and support the strategic partnership between the two nations.
The engagement highlighted a shared vision for extending Pakistan-China cooperation beyond infrastructure, focusing on institution-building, governance, human capital, and political leadership exchanges. Professor Iqbal affirmed the enduring strength of Pakistan-China friendship, emphasizing the importance of connecting institutions, people, and future leadership through the Five Political Corridors.
