ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed the ambassadors-designate of Italy and South Korea in Islamabad, receiving their credentials in a ceremony on Wednesday. The President expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral relations with both nations, emphasizing trade, investment, and diplomatic cooperation.

According to Radio Pakistan, during his meeting with Ugo Ciarlatani, the Ambassador-designate of Italy, President Zardari highlighted the growth in bilateral trade, which has exceeded one billion dollars. He welcomed the recent agreement to abolish visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders and acknowledged Italy’s support for Pakistan’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2025-26. The President also recognized the role of the Pakistani community in Italy as a significant connection between the two countries.

In discussions with Han Sungho, the Ambassador-designate from the Republic of Korea, President Zardari underscored the importance of expanding trade and investment ties. He noted the ongoing talks for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and expressed hope for continued collaboration in areas such as climate change, development, and defense. The President also conveyed optimism about growing cooperation in shipbuilding, technology, and economic development between Pakistan and South Korea.
