LAHORE: The Managing Director of the Horticulture Agency in Lahore, Ahmed Usman Javed, chaired a pivotal meeting with Horticulture Directors to assess the readiness for Independence Day celebrations, ongoing plantation efforts, and the aesthetic enhancement of green belts across the city. The meeting also focused on arrangements to provide free plants to citizens, ensuring public involvement in promoting environmental conservation.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the meeting was attended by Additional Managing Directors Tasleem Akhtar Rao and Madam Zona Waheed Butt, alongside all Horticulture Directors. Detailed briefings addressed Independence Day preparations across different zones, current plantation activities, and future horticultural plans. Ahmed Usman Javed instructed that special stalls be set up in all zones for free plant distribution, encouraging citizen participation in the national spirit of plantation.

The Managing Director emphasized the need for the beautification and upkeep of green belts, directing officers to identify appropriate sites for planting flowering trees. The initiative aims to plant at least 100,000 flowering trees citywide, enhancing Lahore’s beauty while fostering a healthier environment. Collaboration with housing societies for plantations along major roads and green belts was also highlighted as part of the Green Lahore Vision.

In anticipation of the Chrysanthemum Exhibition, Ahmed Usman Javed called for timely and comprehensive arrangements to ensure a grand and organized event. He urged officers to maximize resources to make Lahore visually appealing for Independence Day, providing residents with a cleaner and more pleasant living environment.
