Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges convened in Islamabad to address concerns regarding the spread of a fraudulent appointment letter attributed to the National Assembly Secretariat. The Committee, led by Mr. Muhammad Afzal, MNA, directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to further probe the issue and report back with findings at the next meeting.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the Committee discussed the arrest of Abdul Wajid, who allegedly circulated the fake letter and identity cards. The FIA reported that Wajid admitted to fabricating documents that identified him as an Assistant Director in the National Assembly. His electronic devices are under forensic examination. The Committee also summoned Mr. Jawad ul Hassan, a Metropolitan Officer from Lahore, for non-attendance and addressed a privilege question against an ex-director of the Solid Waste Management Board.

The Committee reviewed amendments to various rules of the National Assembly’s procedural conduct, approving some while deferring others. It also adopted a report from a Sub-Committee and deferred privilege questions from MNA Makhdoom Syed Sami ul Hassan Gillani due to his absence. The session included several MNAs and senior officials from relevant ministries and the FIA.
