Islamabad: A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works was convened under the leadership of Senator Nasir Mehmood to examine the implementation of the Committee’s directives concerning the adjustment, salaries, and pension matters of employees from the dissolved Pak PWD, following the directives issued by the Prime Minister.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the meeting saw participation from several key figures, including Senator Hidayatullah Khan, Senator Khalida Ateeb, Senator Husna Bano, Senator Jan Muhammad, and the Federal Minister for Housing and Works. The Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Works provided a briefing on the status of Pak PWD employees, indicating that they have been adjusted as per the Committee’s directives and are currently receiving their salaries and allowances.

However, the Committee voiced significant concerns regarding the non-payment of pension benefits to those employees who were integrated into the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and have since retired or passed away during their service. It was explained that these pension cases are pending due to differing interpretations of the employees’ status, with the Finance Division releasing funds only for salaries and allowances but not for pensions or medical reimbursements. The Committee stressed that the adjustments made should include all associated perks and privileges as directed by the Federal Cabinet.

Further discussions revealed that the Ministry of Interior has prepared a summary to be submitted to the Prime Minister, as the Finance Division’s stance is binding on all ministries and divisions. The resolution of this matter requires a decision by the Prime Minister or the Federal Cabinet. Following thorough deliberations, the Committee resolved that the matter should be addressed on humanitarian grounds without further delay. Chairman Senator Nasir Mehmood instructed the Ministry of Interior to present the summary to the Prime Minister within three days.

Senator Nasir Mehmood reaffirmed the Committee’s dedication to the welfare of the former Pak PWD employees, stating that the Committee remains committed to addressing the employees’ legitimate issues until they are resolved.
