ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has urged Pakistan’s newly appointed Ambassador to Libya to focus on enhancing political engagement and expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two nations. The President emphasized the importance of these efforts during a meeting with Major General, retired, Mumtaz Hussain, the Ambassador-designate, in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari highlighted the significance of the longstanding and cordial relations between Pakistan and Libya, which are rooted in shared faith and mutual respect. He outlined potential areas for enhanced cooperation, including defense, energy, information technology, healthcare, education, agriculture, and human resource development.

President Zardari also stressed the need for increased interaction between the business communities of both countries and pointed out investment opportunities in Pakistan under the Special Investment Facilitation Council. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Libya’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, as well as its efforts toward lasting peace and national reconciliation.

The President instructed the Ambassador-designate to prioritize the welfare of the Pakistani community in Libya and expressed hope for continued collaboration with Libya at international forums such as the United Nations and the OIC. He conveyed his best wishes to Major General Hussain for a successful tenure and requested him to extend warm greetings to the Libyan leadership and people.

In response, Major General, retired, Mumtaz Hussain affirmed his commitment to addressing the needs of the Pakistani community in Libya and enhancing bilateral trade between the two countries.
