ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif jointly inaugurated the Yadgar-e-Fatah monument in Islamabad to honor the sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs and commemorate the victory in Marka-e-Haq. The ceremony saw the attendance of prominent political and military figures, including the Chairman Senate, Speaker National Assembly, and the Chief of Defence Forces.

According to Radio Pakistan, the President highlighted the country’s strong response to Indian aggression during Marka-e-Haq under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. He emphasized the monument as a symbol of national unity and the armed forces’ strength. The President also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to an independent Palestine and rejected the idea of a “Greater Israel.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif used the occasion to congratulate the nation on Independence Day and acknowledged the sacrifices made for Pakistan’s creation. He described the Yadgar-e-Fatah as a testament to Pakistan’s resolve and praised the military leadership for their roles in the country’s defense. The Prime Minister underscored Pakistan’s desire for peace but warned against threats to its sovereignty and water resources.

The event also featured a special light and sound show, showcasing significant moments in Pakistan’s history. At midnight, the national flag was hoisted at the monument as the national anthem played. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir presented special souvenirs of the Yadgar-e-Fatah to both the President and the Prime Minister.
