Islamabad: The nation marks Independence Day today with observances and events filled with patriotism and a commitment to making the country a true Islamic welfare state. The day began with a thirty-one gun salute in the Federal Capital and a twenty-one gun salute at provincial headquarters across the country.

According to Radio Pakistan, special prayers were offered in mosques after the Fajr prayer, focusing on the peace, solidarity, and prosperity of the country. President Asif Ali Zardari led a flag-hoisting ceremony in the Federal Capital, with similar ceremonies occurring at various headquarters nationwide. Cities and towns were adorned with national flags, buntings, and lights, setting a festive atmosphere.

A variety of programs, including seminars, exhibitions, and cultural events, were organized to commemorate the sacrifices of the nation’s forefathers. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released a national song titled “Mera Pyara Watan Pakistan,” celebrating the country’s love and unity. Radio Pakistan also aired special programming highlighting the contributions of heroes from the Pakistan Movement.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the day began with a 21-gun salute in the state capital, Muzaffarabad. Prayers were offered for the country’s peace and the liberation of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Flag-hoisting ceremonies occurred across all districts, and the AJK Prime Minister laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada monument.
