Islamabad: In a strategic move to bolster the construction sector, Minister for Economic Affairs and Establishment Division Senator Ahad Khan Cheema reaffirmed the government’s dedication to developing cost-effective and durable public infrastructure projects. The announcement came during a key meeting in Islamabad aimed at overseeing comprehensive reforms in the sector.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister revealed plans to extend the standard Defect Liability Period for public development projects from one year to three years, with intentions to further extend it to five years in the future. The extension aims to prevent the rapid deterioration of civil infrastructure post-completion.

During the meeting, discussions also covered the introduction of a comprehensive construction industry development package. This package includes the potential establishment of a Construction Industry Development Board, consideration of a dedicated Construction Development Bank, and the rationalization of import and export policies. Additionally, the government is contemplating targeted tax reforms to further support the construction sector’s growth and efficiency.
