Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani stated that August 14 serves as a symbol of faith, freedom, sovereignty, democracy, and national resolve, marking the historic struggle and sacrifices leading to Pakistan’s creation under Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s leadership. He emphasized the importance of unity and constitutionalism in addressing Pakistan’s contemporary challenges.

According to Press Information Department, Chairman Senate, while addressing the National Independence Day Ceremony at the Convention Centre in Islamabad, extended congratulations to the nation and honored the Founding Fathers, leaders, and workers of the Pakistan Movement. He acknowledged the millions who faced displacement and the sacrifices made for Pakistan’s creation.

He also paid tribute to the martyrs of the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies for their defense and security contributions. He praised the country’s civil and military leadership under President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for advancing national interests. He emphasized the significance of the Makkah Defence Agreement for regional cooperation.

Addressing the country’s challenges like economic pressures and climate change, Chairman Senate highlighted the necessity of national unity, constitutionalism, and strong institutions. He stressed investment in human capital and the digital economy, focusing on equipping the youth with education and skills.

Chairman Senate underscored the equal dignity and participation of all citizens, including minorities, in the nation’s growth. He highlighted the diversity of Pakistan’s provinces as a source of strength and unity and reiterated the country’s commitment to peaceful relations with all nations, affirming support for Kashmir and Palestinian peoples’ rights.

He called for a renewal of national resolve, urging that national interests should transcend personal and political differences. He concluded by emphasizing the transformation of Quaid-e-Azam’s motto of Faith, Unity, and Discipline into a guiding force for Pakistan’s future. Earlier, he participated in the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony at Pakistan Monument, reaffirming his commitment to Pakistan’s progress and stability.
