University of Hartford Students Engage with Pakistan Ambassador on Diplomacy and Peacebuilding


Washington: A delegation from the University of Hartford’s Master of Arts in International Peacebuilding program visited the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C., to engage in a discussion about diplomacy, peacebuilding, and conflict resolution. Led by program directors Phoebe Milliken and Hina Athar Khan, the diverse group of international students explored Pakistan’s role in advancing peace both regionally and internationally.



According to Press Information Department, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh welcomed the students and provided an overview of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts. He emphasized the country’s commitment to peace and dialogue, reflecting on its historical significance in facilitating major international dialogues, including the rapprochement between the United States and China in the 1970s.



Ambassador Sheikh detailed Pakistan’s ongoing mediation efforts, particularly its role in the recent U.S.-Iran negotiations under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He highlighted the importance of quiet and effective diplomacy in conflict resolution, underscoring Pakistan’s position as a trusted mediator.



The visit offered students insights into the practice of diplomacy and peacebuilding, coinciding with Pakistan’s recent mediation efforts in the U.S.-Iran conflict. The students expressed interest in Pakistan’s diplomatic strategies and engaged in discussions with the Ambassador on global challenges.



The event concluded with mutual expressions of gratitude, as Phoebe Milliken thanked Ambassador Sheikh for his insights, and the Ambassador wished the students success in their future endeavors.
