Islamabad: The Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, met with a World Bank delegation led by Ms. Bolormaa Amgaabazar, the Country Director, to evaluate the progress of their economic reform partnership and set priorities for implementation. The meeting focused on various areas including growth, job creation, fiscal management, revenue mobilization, and trade and investment, emphasizing the shift from reform design to practical execution.
According to Press Information Department, the discussions highlighted the World Bank’s support in transforming reform priorities into actionable steps, strengthening coordination among ministries, and enhancing the business environment. The dialogue covered the proposed growth and jobs operation by the World Bank, aimed at enhancing the investment climate and labor-market outcomes, along with initiatives to improve access to finance for SMEs and support incremental trade flows through export-finance products.
The meeting also addressed reforms under the Prime Minister’s Access to Finance initiative, focusing on SME financing and expanding private-sector participation. Sectoral reforms in pharmaceuticals, medical products, and agriculture were discussed to facilitate international market participation. Additionally, the meeting reviewed skills development initiatives, tariff policy implementation, and fiscal and revenue reforms, including GST harmonization and provincial property-tax reforms.
The World Bank’s support for public-sector efficiency and domestic capital market development was also a key focus. The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation, emphasizing private-sector-led growth and enhanced economic opportunities.
