Pakistan Customs Seizes Major Haul of Charas and Other Contraband in M-2 Motorway Operation

Islamabad: Pakistan Customs announced a significant seizure of 1,200 kilograms of charas, valued at approximately Rs. 5.41 billion, during an intelligence-based operation conducted by its Anti-Smuggling Squad off the M-2 Motorway. The operation, which took place in the early hours of October 2, 2026, also led to the recovery of 100 kilograms of poppy seeds, a firearm, and a non-customs-paid Toyota Prado used for transportation.

According to Press Information Department, the operation was initiated following a credible tip-off about a large narcotics shipment. Customs officials moved swiftly to intercept the consignment at the specified location. However, the suspects managed to escape under the cover of darkness, leaving behind the vehicle and contraband, which have now been taken into custody by the authorities.

The seized narcotics have an estimated international market value of Rs. 5.40 billion, with the total value of the seizure, including the vehicle and other items, assessed at approximately Rs. 5.41 billion. An FIR has been filed against unidentified individuals under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997, and the Customs Act, 1969.

The Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement), Islamabad, is actively investigating to identify and apprehend the individuals involved, aiming to uncover the entire network responsible for the narcotics transportation. Legal proceedings are being pursued in line with existing laws.

Pakistan Customs has reiterated its dedication to tackling narcotics smuggling and other illegal trade activities. Through persistent intelligence-driven operations, Pakistan Customs is committed to dismantling illicit trafficking networks, securing the nation’s borders, and ensuring the safety and health of its citizens.
