UN Albinism Expert to Examine Human Rights in Pakistan


Geneva: The United Nations’ Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism, Muluka-Anne Miti-Drummond, is scheduled to visit Pakistan from June 3 to June 12, 2026. The visit aims to assess legislative and policy measures affecting individuals with albinism and address challenges they face in areas such as employment, housing, healthcare, education, and family life.



According to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, during her visit, Miti-Drummond will engage with federal and local government officials, members of the National Assembly, and various government departments. Her itinerary includes visits to Islamabad, Karachi, Dadu, Jacobabad, Lahore, and Sahiwal, where she will meet with civil society representatives, local activists, and persons with albinism, as well as organizations dedicated to albinism.



The visit will culminate in a press conference on June 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the UN building in the Serena Office Complex in Islamabad. Attendance is restricted to journalists, who are advised to contact Ms. Catherine Weibel for access. Miti-Drummond is expected to present a comprehensive report of her findings to the UN Human Rights Council in March 2027.
