Islamabad Police Implements Comprehensive Security for Muharram Processions

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police executed extensive security measures and facilitated a coordinated traffic system for the processions held on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, following directives from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.

According to Islamabad Capital Police, over 6,500 officers were deployed on the 9th of Muharram and more than 4,000 on the 10th, with additional support from over 500 officers of the Islamabad Traffic Police to ensure smooth traffic flow. IGP Rizvi, alongside senior officers, personally reviewed the security arrangements and directed effective enforcement measures throughout the city.

Specialized units, including SWAT commandos, Delta Force, and others, were positioned at strategic points along the procession routes. Sniper commandos were stationed on rooftops, and a ban was imposed on flying private drones in procession areas to enhance safety. Female officers and volunteers conducted security checks for women participants, and special pedestrian entry routes were designated with heavy police deployment.

The procession routes were monitored via the Safe City control room and mobile units, while the Bomb Disposal Squad used modern equipment to clear routes. Traffic police maintained an efficient flow of traffic, implementing an alternative plan and prohibiting vehicle parking near procession areas.

IGP Rizvi highlighted that, in line with the directions from Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, the arrangements were made to ensure peace and security. He acknowledged the cooperation of various security agencies, district administration, and citizens, attributing the maintenance of law and order to collective efforts.
