Supreme Court of Pakistan Sets Elections Date, Asserts Constitutional Adherence

Islamabad, The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued a ten-page written directive confirming the arrangement for general elections to be held within 90 days, setting the date for February 8th. Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who authored the decision, emphasized the Court’s role in assisting the President and the Election Commission of Pakistan in determining a suitable elections schedule.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Supreme Court’s order clarified the consensus among all parties regarding the fixed election date. The order stressed the importance of the judiciary refraining from engaging in disputes that do not warrant their time and intervention. The Supreme Court underscored its constitutional mandate to facilitate the scheduling of elections, warning of grave repercussions if any institution oversteps its constitutional boundaries.

The written order further expounded on the learning from historical precedents, noting the detrimental impacts on the people and the country’s territorial integrity resulting from constitutional violations.
