Pakistanis Divided Over Lowering Minimum Driving Age in Punjab

Lahore: A recent survey by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan reveals a sharp divide in public opinion regarding the decision to lower the minimum driving age for motorcycles and electric bikes to 16 years in Punjab. While 44% of Pakistanis support the policy, 42% oppose it, highlighting significant public contention.

According to Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, the survey sampled 1,227 adults across Pakistan, employing telephonic methods to gather data. The poll found notable gender-based differences in opinion, with 51% of men supporting the age reduction, while 46% of women opposed it. This division suggests that gender may play a role in shaping perspectives on this issue.

The survey, conducted from December 6 to December 18, 2025, with a margin of error of ± 2-3 percent, underscores the importance of addressing public concerns through awareness campaigns focusing on traffic safety and targeted youth engagement. Policymakers are encouraged to consider these findings to implement the policy effectively and ensure public safety.
