Islamabad, In a significant meeting that underscores the deepening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, a delegation from the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), led by its CEO Mr. Sultan Bin Abdul Rehman Al Marshad, held discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting highlighted the ongoing and future collaborations in key sectors including health, energy, infrastructure, and education.
According to Press Information Department, the discussions took place during the SFD’s visit to Pakistan from March 22 to 24, 2024. Prime Minister Sharif expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s multifaceted support, particularly noting recent financial agreements totaling US$ 107 million earmarked for hydropower construction in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). These projects are seen as vital for providing clean energy, reducing deforestation, and creating employment in the region.
Mr. Al Marshad updated the Prime Minister on the progress of several SFD-funded initiatives in Pakistan, such as the Mohmand Multi-purpose Hydropower Project, Golan Gol Hydropower Project, and the Malakand Regional Development Project. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of fast-tracking new green energy and infrastructure proposals to aid Pakistan’s economic recovery and meet local community needs.
The SFD CEO affirmed the commitment to expedite these projects, reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s continued support under the royal leadership. He also conveyed acknowledgments for Pakistan’s hospitality and the conferment of the National Civil Award, Hilal-e-Quaid-e-Azam, on him.
