Islamabad: Pakistan and seven other Muslim countries have issued a strong condemnation of the treatment of participants in a Gaza-bound flotilla, who were detained by Israeli authorities. The criticism is directed at Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, whose actions have been described as degrading and unacceptable.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Turkiye, Indonesia, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates released a joint statement condemning Ben-Gvir for what they termed a deliberate public humiliation of the detainees. They called the actions a violation of Israel’s obligations under international law and an affront to human dignity.

The ministers warned that Ben-Gvir’s actions could incite further hatred and extremism, hindering the peace process in the region. They underscored the necessity of protecting human rights and ensuring the humane treatment of all detainees, emphasizing the importance of adhering to international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

The statement stressed the need for efforts to be directed towards achieving a just and lasting peace, based on the two-state solution.
