Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan underscored the critical importance of resolving the Kashmir issue in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions as a cornerstone for enduring peace in South Asia. His remarks were made during the Pakistan Day parade in Islamabad, emphasizing the long-standing contention over Jammu and Kashmir as a significant source of regional instability.
According to Kashmir Media Service, President Zardari pointed out the prolonged struggle of the Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination, a conflict that has persisted for 76 years under Indian administration. He condemned the ongoing human rights abuses committed by the Indian government against the Kashmiris, expressing Pakistan’s unwavering support for their fight against oppression.
Further expanding on issues of regional concern, President Zardari addressed the situation in Gaza, calling on the international community to act decisively to stop the killing of innocent Palestinians, initiate a ceasefire, and establish a humanitarian corridor as a matter of urgency. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Palestinian people, advocating for a resolution that aligns with their aspirations.
Highlighting Pakistan’s stance on peace and security, President Zardari described the country as peace-loving and a responsible nuclear state, eager for amicable relations with all neighboring nations. Nevertheless, he firmly stated Pakistan’s readiness to defend its sovereignty against any form of aggression or attempts at destabilization by terrorist entities or other groups.
