Lahore: Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari announced that the Punjab government has successfully managed drainage operations in Rawalpindi following record rainfall, demonstrating its ability to respond effectively to heavy monsoon spells. The operations continued uninterrupted during the rain, with complete involvement from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) field workers.
According to Chief Minister of Punjab, the government implemented preemptive measures, including the provision of 990 new drainage vehicles and rigorous pre-monsoon preparations, to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall. These measures included desilting, cleaning of drains, and the establishment of efficient administrative mechanisms to ensure rapid relief for citizens.
Azma Bokhari emphasized that the government’s approach focuses on active water removal rather than natural drainage, with improvements made to drainage systems across various regions. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is personally overseeing these operations and continuously receiving updates on the water clearance efforts.
The Information Minister highlighted the administration’s readiness to adapt and address any shortcomings promptly. She noted that during the current monsoon season, Punjab has managed to clear accumulated water rapidly, contrasting this with prolonged waterlogging issues in other provinces.
Bokhari assured that the government is prepared for further rainfall, with all relevant departments on alert to provide necessary relief to citizens. Additionally, she mentioned a legal matter concerning a review petition filed by the Punjab government, affirming their commitment to respecting the court’s decisions.
