ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the importance of bolstering Pakistan-Malaysia cooperation in several critical areas, including law enforcement, counter-terrorism, narcotics control, and efforts to combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari conveyed his message during a meeting with Malaysia’s Minister for Home Affairs, Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, who visited Islamabad. The President welcomed the Malaysian Minister and his delegation, highlighting the deep-rooted historical ties between the two nations based on shared faith, culture, and mutual respect.
President Zardari expressed appreciation for the progress in strengthening institutional cooperation, particularly in the areas of internal security, immigration, and legal and judicial matters. He underscored the importance of continued coordination between relevant institutions to address mutual concerns and facilitate the citizens of both countries.
The discussions also touched upon ways to increase bilateral trade, with President Zardari emphasizing the need to explore greater market access in Malaysia for Pakistani products such as rice, potatoes, wheat, poultry, and animal feed.
Minister Saifuddin noted that 2026 will mark the 69th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Malaysia, which were established in 1957. He also mentioned the current connectivity between the nations, with 14 flights per week linking various cities in Pakistan with Malaysia, and ongoing efforts to increase the frequency of these flights.
President Zardari expressed confidence that the Minister’s visit would further strengthen institutional ties and deepen the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Malaysia.
