Chandigarh, An Indian government school principal sexually harassed as many as 142 girl students in the Indian state of Haryana.
According to Kashmir Media Service, as many as 142 girl students have levelled sexual harassment allegations against the principal of a government school in Haryana’s Jind district. Initially, 60 girl students accused him of sexual harassment, but now the number has risen to 142.
The disclosure came during the investigation by the Sexual Harassment Committee.
The victims said that the 55-year-old accused used to call them to his office and “indulge in obscene acts”, chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Women, Renu Bhatia, said.
Haryana Police arrested the principal after an ultimatum to the police by the Haryana State Commission for Women.
The Jind District Collector has confirmed the case. The matter is being investigated by various departments.
An initial complaint from a few female students of the school was forwarded by the Haryana State Commission for Women to the police on September 14 but action was taken only on October 30.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was then formed to investigate the matter. The Education Department suspended the accused on October 27.
