Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a significant reduction in petroleum prices, fulfilling a promise to pass on the benefits of declining international oil prices to the public. He addressed the National Assembly, highlighting the impact of the recent peace agreement between the United States and Iran, which has led to a decrease in global petroleum prices.
According to Radio Pakistan, Sharif emphasized the government’s efforts to shield the public from inflation despite regional tensions that had previously driven up petroleum prices. He noted that the government had incurred expenditures amounting to 128 billion rupees to mitigate the impact on citizens. He expressed gratitude to the populace for their patience during challenging times.
Sharif also highlighted Pakistan’s growing global stature, attributing it to the country’s role in facilitating the peace agreement between the US and Iran. He called for a unanimous resolution in the National Assembly to celebrate this diplomatic achievement and demonstrate unity to the world.
In his speech, Sharif recognized the contributions of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in reaching the peace agreement. He recounted a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support during difficult times.
Sharif extended an invitation to the Iranian President to visit Pakistan, emphasizing the strong brotherly ties between the two nations. He also mentioned that a Pakistani delegation would attend the funeral of the late Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Prime Minister expressed confidence in further strengthening Pakistan-Iran cooperation and anticipated economic prosperity in the region following the ceasefire.
