Islamabad: The National Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution acknowledging Pakistan’s role as a neutral mediator in facilitating a peace agreement between the United States and Iran. The resolution highlights the country’s efforts in achieving a cessation of hostilities and the signing of a historic peace deal, positioning Pakistan as a trusted mediator on the global stage.
According to Radio Pakistan, the resolution, introduced by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, commended the contributions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and the entire negotiation team. The Assembly expressed satisfaction with the diplomatic achievement and congratulated the leadership of Iran and the United States for their roles in the agreement.
Additionally, discussions in the National Assembly continue on the budget for the next financial year. Raja Pervez Ashraf criticized the proposed seven percent salary increase for employees as inadequate given the current inflation rates, suggesting a ten percent raise instead. Other members, including Muhammad Ijaz ul Haq, voiced concerns about the GDP growth target of four percent, advocating for a higher rate to alleviate poverty and improve living standards.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry assured the House that the government is considering inputs from both opposition and coalition partners to refine the budget. He emphasized the collaborative effort in preparing a budget that addresses available resources and stakeholder consultations. The Minister also announced an upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the opposition to address national development issues.
The discussion included various members of the Assembly, who contributed their perspectives on the budget and the country’s economic direction. The Assembly will reconvene tomorrow at eleven in the morning.
