Prime Minister Sharif Reaffirms Support for Kashmir on Martyrs’ Day

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif conveyed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir on Kashmir Martyrs’ Day, an annual observance on July 13 to commemorate the 22 Kashmiris killed in 1931 during a protest in Srinagar. The day highlights the ongoing struggle for self-determination and rights in the region.

According to Press Information Department, the sacrifices of those who lost their lives in 1931 are seen as a pivotal moment in the political awakening of Jammu and Kashmir. The day symbolizes the unyielding determination of the Kashmiri people amid reported human rights violations, including detentions and media restrictions, in Indian-administered Kashmir. International human rights organizations and UN bodies have documented and criticized these actions, but the Kashmiri resolve remains firm.

Pakistan’s government, on this occasion, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Kashmiri struggle through political, diplomatic, and moral channels. The statement emphasized that enduring peace in South Asia hinges on resolving the Kashmir conflict in line with UN Security Council resolutions, underscoring the importance of a peaceful solution to the long-standing dispute.
