Lahore: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has mandated the provision of financial assistance to families affected by the recent monsoon rains and floods throughout the nation. According to Radio Pakistan, the directive was issued during a meeting held in Lahore to assess the progress of relief and rehabilitation efforts in response to the monsoon’s impact.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of providing aid to the families of those who lost their lives due to the flooding, as well as to homeowners whose properties were damaged. Additionally, he prioritized the swift restoration of electricity and road networks in the affected regions.
Sharif instructed federal ministers and secretaries to personally visit the affected areas to evaluate the damage and commence restoration work. He also called for an acceleration of relief activities, including the delivery of food and essential supplies to areas that remain difficult to access.
The meeting included a briefing on the monsoon’s impact and the ongoing relief operations. It was reported that 615 tonnes of relief goods have been dispatched to affected regions across the country, with more supplies in preparation. Flood victims have been relocated to safe areas, and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) along with provincial disaster management teams are ready to assist in the event of further adverse weather.
Restoration efforts are advancing in affected areas across multiple provinces, including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting was also informed that operational early warning systems in the Northern Areas have facilitated the timely evacuation of residents to safer locations ahead of potential flooding.
