Pakistan’s Budget Transparency Sees Significant Improvement

Islamabad: Pakistan has seen a notable enhancement in its budget transparency, with improvements recorded at a remarkable 50 percent over the past two years. This development places Pakistan on par with the global average and ahead of regional counterparts, according to a senior government official.

According to Radio Pakistan, Khurram Schehzad, Adviser to the Finance Minister, highlighted the progress in a recent post on X, citing the latest Open Budget Survey by the International Budget Partnership. The survey results indicate that Pakistan has reached the global average score of 45, surpassing countries like India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nigeria, and China.

Schehzad emphasized that increased budget transparency is crucial for strengthening accountability and public trust, and it provides Parliament, citizens, businesses, and investors with greater insight into the management of public resources. He also noted that Pakistan is committed to further advancing this progress by ensuring more timely, comprehensive, and accessible fiscal information, alongside enhanced engagement with the public and Parliament.
