Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has emphasized that Pakistan’s relationship with the United States remains a crucial element of its foreign policy, marking a significant upward trajectory in bilateral ties. During a recent meeting with Natalie Baker, Chargé D’affaires of the US Embassy, Gilani highlighted the importance of maintaining this positive momentum.
Gilani pointed out that mutual trust, respect, and shared interests should form the foundation of Pakistan-US relations. He expressed a strong desire to deepen and broaden this partnership, emphasizing enhanced people-to-people contacts and increased interaction across political, parliamentary, business, education, and cultural sectors.
In the economic domain, Gilani underscored Pakistan’s efforts to encourage US companies to invest, noting that the United States continues to be Pakistan’s largest export market. He expressed Pakistan’s eagerness to diversify its trade relationship with the US, with a particular focus on expanding trade and business cooperation.
Addressing regional issues, Gilani reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to fostering constructive relations with neighboring countries, despite ongoing bilateral challenges. He recalled his tenure as Prime Minister, mentioning his official visit to the United States in 2008 and productive discussions with then-President George W. Bush.
The meeting with Baker, held at the Parliament House, underscores the shared commitment of both nations to bolster their longstanding partnership.
