ISLAMABAD: In a speech marking Pakistan’s Independence Day, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani called for national unity and adherence to constitutional principles as essential components for overcoming the country’s challenges. Highlighting the significance of August 14, he emphasized the day as a symbol of faith, sovereignty, and democracy, commemorating the sacrifices made for the nation’s creation under Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

According to Senate of Pakistan, during the National Independence Day Ceremony in Islamabad, Chairman Senate Gilani extended congratulations to the nation and honored the contributions of the Founding Fathers and leaders of the Pakistan Movement. He also acknowledged the sacrifices of the Armed Forces and law-enforcement agencies in maintaining the country’s security and sovereignty.

Underlining the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Gilani noted Pakistan’s progress in national interests and its role in the international community. He cited the Makkah Defence Agreement as a pivotal development for regional cooperation and security.

Chairman Senate identified economic pressures, unemployment, and climate change among the complex challenges facing Pakistan. He stressed the importance of national unity, constitutionalism, and strong institutions to address these issues. He emphasized the need for investment in human capital, technology, and the digital economy to equip the youth as future innovators and entrepreneurs.

Acknowledging the contributions of all citizens, including religious minorities, farmers, and women, Gilani highlighted Pakistan’s diversity as a source of strength. He reaffirmed the country’s commitment to peaceful international relations and support for the rights of the Kashmiri and Palestinian people.

Concluding his address, Gilani called for renewed national resolve, urging that national interests should transcend personal and political differences. He emphasized the transformation of Quaid-e-Azam’s motto of Faith, Unity, and Discipline into a guiding force for Pakistan’s future.
