New York: Pakistan has urged for sustained global coordination to tackle the escalating crisis in Sudan, emphasizing the need for international cooperation and adherence to humanitarian laws. This was conveyed by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during a session at the United Nations Security Council.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ahmad highlighted that the resolution to the Sudan crisis should be led and owned by Sudanese initiatives. He underscored the importance of a peaceful and united Sudan, which is crucial for the stability and prosperity of the African continent. Ahmad pointed out that the ongoing conflict, large-scale displacement, and worsening humanitarian conditions in Sudan pose a significant threat to regional stability.

In addition to addressing the Sudan crisis, Ahmad called for the UN Security Council to advocate for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Ukraine. He emphasized the need for renewed diplomatic efforts and meaningful dialogue, expressing concern over the impact of the conflict on civilian populations and the recent attacks on critical infrastructure. Ahmad stated that a lasting peace in Ukraine requires a settlement that respects the UN Charter and the security interests of all parties involved.
