Islamabad: Pakistan is actively pursuing US financial assistance to enhance investor confidence, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb stated. The minister highlighted that such financing would serve as a signal to private investors, potentially stimulating the country’s economic landscape.
According to Radio Pakistan, Aurangzeb conveyed to the Financial Times that there has been constructive engagement with Washington regarding a $10 billion swap line. He expressed optimism about receiving an answer within the next few months. The minister emphasized the importance of boosting exports to address the persistent balance of payments issues faced by the import-dependent nation.
The finance minister also discussed potential US financial contributions through entities such as the Exim Bank and Development Finance Corporation. He noted that Exim Bank could play a role in financing Boeing aircraft sales to the newly privatized Pakistan International Airlines. Additionally, there are opportunities for US companies to assist in upgrading Pakistan’s oil refineries, while the Development Finance Corporation might consider taking equity stakes in Pakistani conglomerates.
