Islamabad, Caretaker Minister for Finance, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, has announced that Pakistan is exploring a debt-for-nature swap with global agencies to enhance its market competitiveness. This initiative is part of the country’s broader strategy to address its economic challenges.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Akhtar revealed this development while addressing the 26th Sustainable Development Conference in Islamabad. She also confirmed that the interim government has successfully negotiated a staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a three-billion-dollar loan grant. Dr. Akhtar emphasized the government’s commitment to the IMF program, which she believes should reflect Pakistan’s homegrown agenda.
She highlighted Pakistan’s increasing vulnerability to climate-related shocks, expressing optimism for the upcoming COP-28 international climate forum and anticipating positive discussions at the event.
