New York: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has delivered a letter from Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to the President of the Security Council, Leonor Zalabata Torres, regarding alleged violations of the Indus Waters Treaty by India. The letter highlights concerns over two Indian infrastructure projects on the Chenab River system, which Pakistan claims are intended to alter the flow and usage of the Western Rivers, posing risks to its water, food, and economic security, as well as regional stability.
According to Radio Pakistan, the letter calls for immediate attention from the Security Council to address the situation and hold India accountable for what Pakistan describes as blatant treaty violations. Ambassador Ahmad also took the opportunity to brief the Security Council President on the broader context of South Asian affairs, particularly focusing on India’s continued non-compliance with UN Security Council resolutions concerning the Jammu and Kashmir issue.
