Islamabad: Pakistan marked World Refugees Day by reaffirming its commitment to supporting displaced individuals globally, as outlined in Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s message. The country aligns with the international theme, “Until Everyone is Safe,” emphasizing that safety is a basic human right and a shared global responsibility.

According to Press Information Department, since 1979, Pakistan has been a refuge for millions of Afghan nationals fleeing conflict. The Prime Minister noted that Pakistan’s open-border policy and humanitarian efforts have allowed Afghan refugees to access employment, education, and essential services. As of June 2026, more than 2.4 million Afghans have returned home through a coordinated repatriation process.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the economic and social challenges faced by host countries, highlighting the importance of international support in managing such burdens. He emphasized Pakistan’s collaboration with the International Organization for Migration and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in supporting Afghan refugees’ return and reintegration.

The message also paid tribute to the Pakistani people for their generosity and hospitality, underscoring the nation’s role as a model for humane treatment of refugees. The Prime Minister called for continued global efforts to ensure displaced persons can return home with dignity and hope.
