Islamabad: Pakistan and Ethiopia are set to bolster their cooperation in agriculture and livestock, focusing on enhancing trade, investment, and technology transfer. The development came after a high-level meeting chaired by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, with Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Oumer Hussein Oba.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting reviewed the potential for agricultural collaboration between the two agrarian nations. Pakistan expressed its readiness to share expertise in agricultural research, modern farming technologies, and livestock development. Both countries aim to translate their goodwill into tangible projects and partnerships, with a particular emphasis on promoting Pakistani agricultural machinery and agro-processing expertise in Ethiopia.
Discussions also covered cooperation in the livestock sector, focusing on areas such as animal breeding, disease control, and dairy production. The meeting underscored the importance of enhancing bilateral agricultural trade and improving market access through better coordination on sanitary and phytosanitary standards.
Rana Tanveer Hussain reiterated Pakistan’s proposal to establish a Joint Working Group on Agriculture and Livestock, to facilitate regular engagement and technical exchanges. Ambassador Dr. Oumer Hussein Oba highlighted Ethiopia’s potential in agricultural commodities and investment, expressing readiness for increased collaboration.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to prioritize result-oriented cooperation, focusing on specific projects and private-sector partnerships to strengthen their agricultural relations and explore new avenues for mutual benefit.
