Islamabad: The National Tariff Commission (NTC) and the Pakistan Single Window (PSW) have signed an agreement to automate and digitize NTC processes, aiming to improve trade facilitation and industrial competitiveness. This initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of transforming NTC into a credible and responsive organization through digitalization.
According to Press Information Department, the “Agreement for Automation and Digitization” was signed by Dr. Jawwad Uwais Agha, Chairman of NTC, and Syed Aftab Haider, Chief Executive Officer of PSW. Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, commended the NTC’s recent achievements and underscored the importance of digitalization in reforming the commission. He stated that a digitalized NTC is crucial for supporting a high-growth economy and aligning Pakistan’s trade defense mechanisms with global standards.
The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in data sharing and the automation of NTC’s processes related to tariff and trade policy analysis, tariff rationalization, and trade remedial actions. The digitalization efforts are expected to reduce case processing times, improve investigative precision, and foster a transparent trade regime, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of Pakistan’s trading environment.
The collaboration is anticipated to integrate critical tariff functions into the PSW digital framework, creating stronger institutional linkages and enabling real-time trade data sharing. This step reflects the shared commitment of NTC and PSW to promote transparent and growth-oriented trade and tariff regimes, ultimately supporting the competitiveness of domestic industries.
