Islamabad: A high-level review meeting of the National Highway Authority (NHA) was chaired by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, focusing on revenue enhancement, road safety, and development programs. The meeting assessed the progress of ongoing projects and financial matters.
According to Press Information Department, Minister Abdul Aleem Khan announced that the NHA had successfully met its revenue enhancement targets set two years ago. He outlined plans to use this revenue for constructing new roads and highlighted major projects nearing completion, including the Lodhran-Multan Expressway and the Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad Motorway, which the Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate in the coming months. The minister also addressed the rapid progress on the Sialkot-Kharian Motorway and the commencement of work on the Karachi-Quetta-Chaman Pakistan Expressway (N-25). Expressing concern over the Lahore-Gujranwala GT Road’s condition, he directed immediate improvements to ensure better travel conditions.
Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized that road safety should be prioritized through enhanced engineering practices in highway construction. He called for engaging foreign experts to improve road design and urged adherence to international standards for safer and more comfortable motorways. During the meeting, the availability of funds for the M-6 Motorway and other projects under the Public Sector Development Programme was discussed. It was noted that despite managing only 3.13 percent of the country’s road network, the NHA supports over 80 percent of the nation’s traffic. The meeting also resolved to seek Rs.108 billion from the Federal Government for NHA projects in Baluchistan.
