National Assembly Advances Elections (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024 Amid Broad Legislative Push


Islamabad: The National Assembly has approved the Elections (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024, spearheaded by Bilal Azhar Kayani, as part of a broader legislative session today that included significant discussions on national issues and other legal measures. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar emphasized that the bill aligns with constitutional principles, underscoring the parliament’s role in shaping the nation’s legislative framework.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the session was marked by the passage of the bill and the introduction of several others aimed at enhancing social justice and governance. The Law Minister also responded to concerns about passport issuance delays, announcing the acquisition of advanced printing technology to significantly increase daily processing capabilities by this October.



Additionally, the assembly addressed international concerns, passing a resolution demanding India to halt human rights abuses in Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and to adhere to UN resolutions, echoing Pakistan’s solidarity with the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination. This resolution, moved by Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, also called for the release of detained Kashmiri political leaders.



The legislative day included the presentation of four other bills ranging from child rights to local government amendments which were subsequently referred to respective standing committees for further deliberation.



The session began with a moment of remembrance for late MNA Mumtaz Mustafa and victims of recent floods, reflecting the assembly’s concern for current national challenges.
