Modi Government’s Response to Manipur Crisis Faces Criticism

New Delhi: The Modi government’s handling of the ongoing crisis in Manipur has been criticized after a delay in imposing President’s Rule in the state.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the situation in Manipur worsened following the resignation of N Biren Singh as Chief Minister. The central government took four days to impose President’s Rule, raising questions about its ability to respond effectively. This is the 11th instance of President’s Rule in the state.

Experts suggest that the delay revealed the government’s inability to stabilize the region. The wait allowed unrest to intensify, worsening the volatile situation.

Rahul Gandhi commented on social media, describing the imposition of President’s Rule as an acknowledgment of the BJP’s failure to govern the state effectively.

Political analysts have highlighted the government’s delayed response as a major concern. They argue that it not only hindered efforts to restore order but also signaled neglect towards internal conflicts. The impact on citizens during this period has been significant.

The delay was further complicated by the state BJP’s struggle to agree on a new Chief Minister, preventing the assembly from convening. This posed a constitutional issue as the state neared the six-month limit for reconvening after its last session.

The prolonged inaction has prompted concerns about the central government’s approach to managing internal conflicts. Citizens across Manipur have voiced feelings of neglect as governance deteriorated.

Opposition parties and social activists have criticized the government’s delayed response, urging reforms to avoid similar crises in the future.
