KARACHI: The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has obtained a stay order from the Sindh High Court to prevent the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) from shutting down petrol pumps.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the Petroleum Dealers Association achieved a legal victory by halting KMC’s actions against fuel stations. On Monday, Constitutional Bench No. 2 of the Sindh High Court heard a petition filed by the association and issued a stay order, preventing KMC from taking coercive measures against petrol pumps.

The court’s decision came in response to petitions from Madina Filling Station, Makkah Mobile Service, and Naseer Gasoline Service. Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Chairman of the Petroleum Dealers Association, stated that the court acknowledged their argument, affirming that KMC lacked the authority to raid or forcibly act against petrol stations.

Following the court’s directive, petrol pump operators have been instructed to continue their operations. Dealers have been advised to inform KMC officials of the court’s order should they visit any petrol pump.

PPDA Vice Chairman Tariq Hasan noted that the association successfully presented its case regarding KMC’s jurisdiction to the court. He described the court’s suspension of actions against petrol pumps as a significant achievement for the Petroleum Dealers Association.
