KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah emphasized the importance of unity and strength within Pakistan, asserting that the nation faces no threat as long as its armed forces remain steadfast and its people stay united. He made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the “Salam Karachi” Festival, a 15-day event organized by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) at Frere Hall, celebrating Independence Day, Defence Day, Martyrs’ Day, and Air Force Day.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the festival was a unique initiative highlighting Karachi’s historical, cultural, and national identity, serving as a platform for entertainment and promoting national spirit. The Chief Minister congratulated Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab and the event organizers for the successful conclusion of the celebrations. He underscored Karachi’s significant role in the Pakistan Movement and its continued importance as the economic center of the country.
During his address, the Chief Minister recounted the resilience of Pakistan against past aggressions and praised the nation’s armed forces for their unwavering defense. He also highlighted the diplomatic efforts made by Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in presenting Pakistan’s case internationally. Shah reiterated the need for unity among all segments of society to counter any negative perceptions of Pakistan on the global stage.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab also addressed the ceremony, reflecting on the city’s journey from unrest to peace, attributing this transformation to the sacrifices of law enforcement agencies and the people. He stressed the importance of sustaining development and prosperity in Karachi and the need to highlight the city’s positive image globally. The mayor vowed that Karachi would not revert to the days of fear and unrest, promising continued peace and development efforts.
The “Salam Karachi” Festival featured various activities, including musical evenings, cultural programs, and cycle rallies, engaging citizens in a vibrant celebration without any untoward incidents. Mayor Wahab expressed his commitment to furthering Karachi’s development, emphasizing the city’s diversity and potential as a unifying force for Pakistan.
The event concluded with Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, KMC officials, and a large number of students in attendance, marking the end of the largest festival of its kind in Karachi.
