Hindutva Extremists Gather at Mumbai’s Dargah, Stirring Controversy

Mumbai: Members of Hindu extremist groups raised saffron flags and chanted Hindutva slogans at the Haji Malang Dargah in Maharashtra, a state governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The incident has sparked concerns over religious tensions in the region.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, a video circulating on social media shows the group waving saffron flags and chanting “Jai Shri Ram” during the annual Urs festival at Malang Gad hill in Thane district.

The Dargah Committee has issued a strong condemnation of the actions. “This is a dargah, a place of worship for people of all faiths. Such attempts to alter its religious significance are unacceptable,” the committee declared.

Hindu groups involved in the incident argue that the site has historical significance for them. A representative claimed, “This is a temple, and our ancestors worshipped here. We are reclaiming our heritage.”

A notable aspect of the video is a police officer seen in the background, observing the event without intervention. This has raised questions regarding the role of law enforcement in managing communal harmony.

Social activist Imran Khan criticized the incident, asserting, “This is an attempt to disturb peace. The authorities must take strict action to prevent such provocations in religious places.”
