New York: United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s significant contributions to the UN’s peace and development agenda, highlighting the country’s mediation efforts and role as a member of the Security Council. The remarks came during a farewell meeting with Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, in New York.
According to Radio Pakistan, Guterres also extended his congratulations to Ambassador Iftikhar on his recent appointment as the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan. The Secretary General wished him success in his new role and acknowledged Pakistan’s ongoing support for the United Nations’ initiatives.
During the meeting, Ambassador Iftikhar thanked Guterres and his team for their support throughout his tenure. He expressed his admiration for the Secretary General’s leadership and advocacy for multilateralism, the UN Charter, and international law.
