Government’s Fuel Relief Scheme Aids Millions Amid Rising Prices


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the low-income class through a fuel relief scheme as fuel prices continue to rise. During a meeting held to assess the progress of the scheme, he noted that over 7.5 million citizens have already benefited from the initiative.



According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the swift implementation of the fuel subsidy, attributing its success to the timely actions of the government. He praised the efforts of the government team and highlighted the scheme as an exemplary model of cooperative governance.



The meeting also highlighted the extensive reach of the scheme, with over 8.4 million individuals registered and 12.2 million tokens issued since its launch last month. The initiative targets owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, and vehicles with engine capacities up to 800cc, with facilitation available at petrol pumps across 129 districts. A 24-hour call center has been established to assist citizens and petrol pump operators, underscoring the government’s commitment to effective implementation and future citizen support.
