Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Senior Citizens on International Day of Older Persons


Islamabad: Pakistan’s government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of older citizens on the International Day of Older Persons, as highlighted by Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, the Federal Minister for Human Rights. The statement emphasized the importance of valuing and supporting the elderly within families and communities across the nation.



According to Press Information Department, the minister noted that respect for elders is ingrained in Pakistan’s cultural and religious values and remains a societal obligation. The Islamabad Capital Territory Senior Citizens Act of 2021 was cited as a key legislative framework designed to ensure the security and care of the aging population.



The statement underscored the collective responsibility of families, communities, governmental bodies, and civil society to include older persons in societal activities actively. The emphasis was placed on maintaining the dignity, well-being, and rights of senior citizens as a shared priority for all sectors of society.
